Hello March

It’s my birthday month!

I’ll be 30 on the 5th, and I decided to simply go with the flow as far as celebrating.

Since I was 21, I’ve always made plans for my birthday, and things never go accordingly. Nothing bad ever happened, it’s just that things never go as planned. That’s made some hella great memories though.

There are no definitive plans this year, as spontaneity is what I’m seeking.

I have a few more items to knock off my 30 by 30 list. My goal is to knock them off by June 1st, so that I can start on my 40 by 40 list.

A few years back, I read a post, Treat Yo’Self To Birthday Month , by Alex Temblador , in which she discusses celebrating your damn self! ūüĎčūüŹĺ Hey Alex! I share it every year it comes up in my Facebook memories as a reminder; do what you want to do in celebration of yourself.

Now I do realize many people don’t celebrate their birthdays, I’m not one of those people! Partaaaaaay!

You celebrate your birthday the entire month, if that’s what you choose to do. We tend to be so consumed with all the other things life throws at us, and truly never celebrate ourselves.

It’s okay to celebrate you, don’t ever let anyone make you feel guilty for doing so.

Go on those trips, buy that expensive item, TREAT YO’SELF GUH!

Not only is my birthday in March, Spring begins this month, and it’s the start of Festival Season (I’ve been planning outfits all winter).

Even if my birthday wasn’t in March, it’d still probably be my favorite month.

Let’s go on a living spree!

Happy March y’all!!

Strawberry Banana Mimosas

It’s Galentine’s Day!

Galentine’s Day is just like Valentine’s Day, except you celebrate with your friends. I mean do you really need a reason to hang out with your friends?

To celebrate, I made strawberry banana mimosas, and they were delish!

I promise they are super easy to make.

Here’s what I used:

Sparkling rosé (the brand is based on your preference)

A oz bottle of Naked Strawberry Banana flavor

Strawberries for garnish

And here’s what I did:

Filled the champagne flutes about 1/2 way with the Naked juice.

Filled the glass to the top with sparkling rosé

Sliced a couple strawberries for garnish and placed them on the glass.

Then used a coffee straw to stir the mixture in each glass.

Dasit! ūüėĚ Super easy and super yummy. ūüėč

I found a billion recipes, but I never follow recipes. There more of a reference for me than an actual plan.

Being that I juice, I could’ve simply made some juice, but I didn’t want the hassle of cleaning up.

And honestly, when drinking with friends, who really want to do all that extra work.

Nonetheless, you should definitely enjoy your friends on this Galentine’s!

What are some of your favorites mimosa recipes?

Pose For The Camera

Today was a glorious day in my life!

I received my vintage Polaroid camera in the mail. Delivery was delayed by two days, for what reason idk.

When I checked the mail, I literally started dancing. As soon as I got in the house I bust the box open. My son was hella confused as to what it was that I had.

Once he realized how it worked, “Mama, take my picture” is all he kept saying. I obliged. He was so stoked. As was I ūü§ó

When we went to pick big brother up from school, baby boy couldn’t wait to spill the beans. Of course brother wanted a pic too.

After I took his photo, he laughed about how bright the flash was, ūü§∑ūüŹĺ‚Äć‚ôÄÔłŹ.

We are going to have tons of fun with this camera.

If you’re interested in purchasing one, I got it at Polaroid Originals. It was super easy to purchase and shipping was surprisingly fast. Keep in mind these cameras are refurbished.

I’m super excited to have this camera in my possession now.

Take Off ūüöÄ

I attended my first Houston Rockets game yesterday, and it was pretty cool.

I can say New Orleans Pelicans fans are completely different than Rockets fans.

As I was getting dressed to leave, my youngest son said ” Mama I wanna go with you”, and to my surprise my oldest replied ” Can mama get a break from us”. In that moment I realized how much my son does care about my well being.

Once I was dressed, in rolled the boys and their commentary. “Ooooo mama, you look cute”. “Mama you look bourgeois (boujee)”.

My babies tickle me, I don’t know where I’d be without these characters.

As a mom, we tend to buy for our children, even when they don’t need it, before we buy for ourselves.

With the exception of my boots, everything I had on was purchased on sale/clearance.

Looking great doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. I’m not saying don’t pay full price for items, but if you don’t have to, why should you?

This blog post actually went into a different direction as originally planned. ūü§∑ūüŹĺ‚Äć‚ôÄÔłŹ

I had fun at the Rockets game. I’ll definitely be attending more. I have to learn about the players on the team, so I can fully be into the games.

I’m going to put together a list of my sale shopping tips, so be on the look out for that.

Boots: Shoedazzle

Hat and bag : GoJane

Jeans: Fashion Nova

Sweater: Walmart

Going Green!

This past June, I made the decision to give up meat for good. It was fairly simple, as meat really wasn’t a big part of my diet. My oldest son has made a fuss here and there because he loves meat, but he has yet to dislike a meatless dish made.

A few Night ago a made vegetarian chili and he absolutely LOVED it.

I found this recipe from Damn Delicious via Pinterest.  It requires you to use quinoa instead of meat.

I’ll be honest, I miss hot wings. Today I’m going to try a buffalo cauliflower recipe and determine if I’ll be adding it to our menu regularly.

The cauliflower buffalo bites were a hit! They were better than I expected. We now have a new snack to add to the menu.

I’ll make a post about this whole process in the next couple days.

In addition to axing meat, I have vowed to juice more.  I have no hard set plan for juicing outside of juicing 3 consecutive days every month. All these changes are conducive with me deciding to live better and be healthier is all aspects. Your health is wealth. I cannot say that enough.  Without your health, you have nothing.

I’ll continue to share our journey to living better; The good, bad, and ugly.

As the wise Jerry Springer says “Take care of yourselves, and each other”.

Happy New Year!

We made it to 2018!!

May this year be a great one for you. Know that everything you encounter this year is to grow  you as a person. See the good in every situation, even when it seems impossible. All things in life are  dependent upon your perspective.

Remember your mind is your most powerful tool, use it!

If you can think it, you can achieve it!

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life

2017 has been a year of reconstruction and restoration for me, with self-healing and the law of attraction being the primary focus.

The Law of Attraction is the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on. An example that always manifests in my life is when I think about a person, and I end up seeing them in public or they call me. The Law of Attraction applies to any and everything. Want health and prosperity, focus on health and prosperity. Focus on a negative outcome, receive a negative outcome.

In an effort to truly educate myself on LOA, I turned to YouTube. Contrary to popular belief, there is so much great content on YouTube. I found a few videos on tasks you should do to begin to actively engage in the Law of Attraction. One day, by chance happening, a video concerning the Law of Attraction and the power of visualization played. A man I had never heard of was speaking. Reverend Ike and his Mind Science appealed to me, as he talked of changing the way we think to get the things we want. In addition to changing how we thought, you have to put in the work to acquire these things. I then I added his teachings to my repertoire.

I previously wrote about 30 things I wanted to get done before I made¬†30. One item on that list was to read 5 new books. Instead of starting with a new book, I started with one I’ve read, but couldn’t really recall, so in a sense it’s new.

I started “The¬†Mis-Education of the Negro” by Carter G. Woodson.

The book covers the topic of how obtaining degrees may have hurt black people as a whole. It touches on how those who receive formal educations tend to lose touch with the environments they come from and be detrimental by looking down on them and not helping those behind rise up. I know and understand that this happens across the board, but the book addressed the black community.

As I was reading, the following excerpt, “Real education means to inspire people to live life more abundantly, to learn to begin with life as they find it and make it better…”¬†stood out to me and brought to my¬†recollection¬†two¬†things. One, Reverend Ike teaching of no matter where you are in life, you can create the life you desire to live, and two an interview of rapper Future and Funk Master Flex that I’ve watched a countless number¬†times.

In this particular interview Future speaks of how you can overcome the circumstances you’re born into, you just have t to want better and change the way you think. Below is the interview ūüĎáūüŹĺ

” ] How are these things related?

Let’s¬†take a¬†look¬†at the excerpt again, “Real education means to inspire people to live life more abundantly, to learn to begin with life as they find it and make it better…”.¬†Reverend Ike stated that you can change your life no matter what stage you’re in by changing your thoughts and visualization, and¬†Future¬†Hendrix¬†stated, if you believe in the statistics, you’ll become on.¬†You¬†can’t stay mentally¬†trapped, you¬†have to think beyond those statistics.¬†He made the¬†decision where he found himself is not where he wanted to¬†stay.¬†He¬†changed¬†his thoughts, and saw the bigger picture.¬†His¬†trap was the hood and selling drugs, but your trap may¬†be¬†working¬†a 9-5 with no real progress. You have to see beyond that, picture¬†yourself¬†doing what you desire¬†out¬†life.¬†¬†Whatever your trap is, you can get out if you want it bad enough.¬†¬†Funk Master Flex¬†also stated how¬†Future¬†inspires many people in the hood, and that he’s an example of how you can make it out and do better.

The most powerful tool we possess is our mind, whatever you think will surely manifest. If we’re completely¬†honest¬†formal¬†educations really do not teach you how to think, they teach you what to think.¬†You’re prepared do a certain job, and no more than that.¬†¬†If people are taught how to think, imagine the things that could be accomplished. Is it an easy task, no, but having the life you desire is the ultimate¬†reward.

Success is within the gold mine of the mind. Think and use the gold mine between your¬†ears”.-¬†Earl Nightingale.

The Law of Attraction does¬†require¬†work, even the Holy Bible tells us that faith without works is dead. James 2:14-17¬†What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don‚Äôt show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?¬†Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,¬†and you say, ‚ÄúGood-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well‚ÄĚ‚ÄĒbut then you don‚Äôt give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?¬†I¬†am almost certain other religious¬†texts discuss this topic. In the interview, Future state how¬†what’s a few years to¬†change¬†how you think to get what you want.

Bottom line, your thoughts determine your life. What you think you become, so what are you thinking about?

The Law of Attraction is something that has peaked my interest, and I am going to do some extensive research to gain more knowledge on the topic.  I will infuse music and academic studies to show how the Law of Attraction works, even when we do not realize it. Stay tuned as I will share my knowledge acquired with anyone who will listen.

Remember, you can change your life right where you are. Change your thoughts, change your life.

This blog was inspired by a former friend whom I miss dearly. If you happen to be reading this, know that I love you, miss you, and still believe in you. Thank you for pushing me to be better when it seemed like no one else was in my corner.

30 By 30

On March 5th, 2018,¬† I’ll be 30. YIKES!!!

There are lots of stigmas associated with turning 30. According to society, by 30 you should have acquired a spouse and children, a career, a house, among other things. I can admit that I may have fallen into the trap of what this is how my life should be by 30, but I had to check myself. No ones life path is the same, and you should trust the timing of your life.

This post was inspired by Ro’Shunda over at¬†Travel With The Russells.¬†¬†Hey Girl!

Her post,¬†30’s The New 20: I’m On Fire Still¬†is a summation of 30 things she wants to do before her 30th birthday.¬† Some of her items were really awesome, and got my wheels turning, ¬†so I created a list of my own.

So let’s hop right to it. Here are the 30 things I would like to have completed before my 30th. They are listed in no particular order.

  1. Spend 30 Minutes talking to a stranger.
  2. Get a bikini wax. I know, I know! The thought just makes me cringe though.
  3. Visit a new city in Texas
  4. Experience a sensory deprivation chamber.
  5. Spend $30 on lunch for someone
  6. Do a Boudoir photo shoot. Gotta let this inner Goddess out!
  7. Spend an entire weekend alone. I have no idea how this one will happen.
  8. Go sky diving
  9. Get another tattoo/ piercing. I have one tattoo that I got when I was 18.
  10. Eat a meal I’ve never had before. Like that time I ate Guinea pig in Peru.
  11. Go on a hot air balloon ride
  12. Learn to gamble. I know absolutely nothing about gambling. I’d rather lose my money to buying shoes.
  13. Go camping. As a kid I always wanted to do this.
  14. Skinny dipping, YOLO!
  15. Learn to twerk. I’ve given it some half ass attempts, but I need to use my whole ass and commit
  16. Write and record a song. I can’t sing or rap, so this will be interesting.
  17. Start a garden. I’ll have to figure out how to do so on my apartment patio.
  18. Become a mentor. Everybody needs one or a few
  19. Write a letter to my 40- year old self. I’m sure 40 -year old Sarah will laugh and say “Girl you are crazy”.
  20. Go on a Baecation. That requires a bae, so I’ll work on that part.
  21. Purchase something expensive.
  22. Take more pictures. I am rarely in pictures, if you don’t count selfies, but I just don’t take pictures. I need to capture more moments in my life.
  23. Do something freaky. I’m not even sure what that means, and it’s up for interpretation. But when I do it, I’m sure I’ll say “that was some freaky sh*t”.
  24. Meditate 30 consecutive days. I can go about 10 days, then fall off the wagon.
  25. Write an E-Book. I have no idea what it will be about, but I’ll get it done.
  26. Read 5 new books. I read my fair share of children’s books, I need to enrich my own mind as well.
  27. Visit each one of my friends. We all live in different cities, and I think it would be nice to visit them in their element.
  28. Start my 40 things to do before 40 list. That list will be much more intricate, as I’ll have more time to compose it.
  29. Learn other languages. I won’t just pick one, as I am heavily into linguistics.
  30. Go to a hoedown.

It’s December 5th, and I’ve given myself 3 months to complete this list. I’m gonna try my best to document me checking things off my list. (See item 22).

What are some things you’d like to do before your next milestone birthday?

Me, Myself, and I

IMG_4388.JPGIn 2016, I decided that 2017 would be the year that I would commit to healing the broken parts of myself.¬† The decision came from me not wanting to bring issues from my past into my 30’s.¬† I proclaimed that I would walk into my 30’s a new, maybe not new, but changed woman. I really did, and still do not want to be damaged goods. My 20’s were good, but my 30’s will be greater.

The number one issue in my life that I had to fix was my relationship with my father. My dealings with my dad directly reflect how I treat men. I treat men exactly how I treat my father. I felt as if me being that way would be counterproductive to me teaching my sons to be respectable, accountable, and trustworthy men.

This year, my sister came to live with me. she was raised with our father, I was not, so in a nutshell, we both have daddy issues. We had a many sister talks and got to see our father from each other’s point of view. It was comical to hear all the lies he had told about my mother as to why he was not active in my life. My sister got to see first hand how my dad avoids me. He would call her to check on my kids as opposed to calling me, ya know, their mother.

There were other events that occurred during our time of living together, where we both agreed neither of us had it better than the other.  My father and his ways old fashioned and manipulative had done a great number on us. Those few short months with my sister healed a huge part of me, but there was still work to be done.

One of my favorite photos of myself and my sister.

I have really gotten into affirmations, setting intentions, and speaking what I want out of life and with my self healing process.

*Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2017*

This was my first Thanksgiving in my adult life with my family on either side. I sat with each of my  family members and had a conversation which confirmed revealed answers I was looking for. It was a bit trippy, I was like damn you unknowingly gave me the answer I have been waiting on. I can say that each answer may not have been the one I wanted, but it was what I needed.

Observing my dad and how he talked to my brother further proved that I really did not miss out on anything. I was like this man is short fused and angry for no reason, oh and lets not forget always right *rolls eyes*. I wanted to engage him in a conversation about this, but he ALWAYS avoids this topic when I bring it up. He never wants to go head to head with me about real issues, that’s another trait I detest in other people.¬† My dad and his way with people is why I have struggled dearly with trusting men. When I say trusting, I don’t mean I think they will cheat or things of that nature, It’s more of,¬† “I think you’re generally full of shit and will lie about anything” type of distrust. Knowing what I know now, this train of thought is not healthy.¬† In the last few months I have gotten better with trusting, as I am learning to change the way I think.

With me making progress in this area, I have been thrown a test in the form of my sons father. The way he handles me and my son is exactly how my dad does me and my mom. It’s beyond frustrating, and makes me want to tear some shit up. Lol, I’m not going that route though. I am determined to completely heal this area and totally transform my thinking. I WILL pass this test.

The self healing process is not pretty. You will cry, you’ll get angry, you’ll be joyous of your progress, but the end result is well worth going through all those things. You have to know that the things you will learn about yourself may piss you off, but if you don’t check self, how can you check anyone else. It will not happen over night, and trust me it is a daily crusade.

It is extremely necessary for one to heal themselves, no one else can do it for you. When working on self beware of other people who are broken and are not trying to change. They will drain and discourage you if you let them. I know it’s easier said than done, but you have to cut that out of your life if you’re serious about healing.

I ultimately want to be a better me, a better mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Knowing who you are gives you power over those who challenge your identity.

Fresh Out the Bed

For the last six years, I have dreaded getting up in the morning.  Why do I have to get up, can I wait until mid morning?

It wasn’t until March of this year that I decided to get my sleeping habits/pattern under control. This was a result of me acquiring an IPhone 6 Plus and utilizing the bedtime and sleep analysis feature.

My sleep habits were HORRIBLE! I was averaging about 3 hours of sleep a night. I kept wondering how was I able to function throughout the day. I had to get this together and quickly. That also meant that I had to get my boys sleep habits under control as well.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, someone in my age range (26-64) needs anywhere between 7-9 hours each night.

Clearly I was nowhere close to that.

I took the time out to create an evening schedule so that I could be in the bed by 9:45.

I noticed a drastic change in how I felt every morning, except one thing…

I figured I’d set alarms at intervals to slowly pull me out of my sleep. At the time it did not cross my mind, but we sleep in stages, so wouldn’t it make sense that we wake up in stages.

I did no research to see if it would help, I just went straight for experimentation.

With the sleep analysis feature, an alarm is already set for the time you desire, so there is no need to set another for the same rime. Mine is set to go off at 5am, with the subsequent alarms going off at 5:30, 5:45, and 6am.

The alarm set via the sleep analysis feature plays a soft music when it goes off, that does not abruptly wakens me. I am cognizant enough to turn it off, but not completely awakened either.

My 5:30 alarm is the standard alarm sound that comes on the iPhone. That alarm is also tolerable, as I had previously heard an alarm and am now aware that it is almost time to rise

5:45 alarm goes off to the sounds of I Can by HoodRich Pablo Juan & Migos. It helps to get me pumped about getting out of bed and doubles as a bit of motivation.

Lastly, my 6am alarm goes off to the tune of Deadz by Migos. This song totally gets me hyped and encourages one to get those dead presidents (money for those who don’t know).

This may seem like a long process, but it’s completely worth it. I don’t feel like I was cheated out of any rest when I do get out of the bed.  I genuinely feel like a productive member of society when I get up.

I have even tried this with my boys who are most definitely not morning people. I noticed a change in attitude once they are up versus when I would just wake them up and make them immediately get day started. I hear “Good morning mommy” versus them growling and whining.

Get On Up by Jodeci is the song I use to wake my boys.

I am obviously no professional, but I am a busy mama who was tired of feeling, and I am here to share the things I have tried.  This method worked the first try around for me, and we have been using it for months.

Additionally, I had to learn that staying up late to do things while the kids are sleeping was unhealthy.

In conclusion, how you wake up is just as important as falling asleep.

If you try it let me know what you did differently and if you also try it with your children.

Thanks for reading!
